WARINESS - Attacks on ATMs - better understand and ward off

01/08/2018 to 30/09/2020

For the detection of manipulated hardware and software investigators often lack appropriate tools. The goal of the project is to develop methods to efficiently extract and analyze manipulated software.

For this purpose, a new analysis environment is to be created. This takes the place of the ATM in the laboratory. It tracks the relevant hardware components and uses a set of tools to understand how the malware works and to evaluate them forensically. The ATMs themselves are also the focus of improvements. New analysis interfaces should make it easier and more comprehensive to investigate security incidents later.
